ABOUT THIS ARTWORK
Did you know that Venetian floors, are rich in history? A Byzantine mosaic inside St. Mark's Basilica depicting a pair of peacocks was recently restored. Byzantine mosaics and depictions of animals (very recurrent among the street of Venice) emphasize the important relationship with the East that results in an opening to new horizons and cultures. Among other symbologies the peacock for the Christian religion has a very strong meaning: an animal that seeks to go beyond and can see what cannot be seen. Mosaics thanks to their precious material are able to be receptive to light, which is why I chose to use bright colors, with small touches on the peacock's body to recreate the refraction of light
