Estate, Mattia Riami exhibition

Galleria Garance & Marion is pleased to present Mattia Riami's solo exhibition, entitled « Estate », which will remain open until October 30th!

The artist immerses us in a lively and nostalgic world.  A summer marked by the sound of “big” children running on the beach, by lovers kissing intensely, by boat engines, by scooters, by laughter, by dance music and by the barking of dogs;  Mattia's summer is also marked by silence, solitude, introspection and contemplation; A book that smells like a never-ending cup of coffee, a vase waiting for its most beautiful flowers, a dog sitting and contemplating its owner, or waiting for a ball to be thrown to it?

This contrast is visible in the use of wax crayons and collage, but also in his archaic bodies and those that float with androgynous allure, in those invisibles that have become visible: underwater animals and cicadas; in those glances that fix the viewer and in those that flee.

His works are captured for a moment, offering us a broad and inebriating image: that of the prolongation of holidays and the slowness of summer, which opens the doors in a sweet and silent way to the magic of future seasons.

”The cicadas are singing so loud that I can hardly hear my friend’s voice shouting something to me, under my shirt a drop of sweat slides down my back. It’s hot in this sunlit summer, aniseed popsicles lower our temperature, dripping down our arms. We take off our clothes and run to dive, the water reflects our smiles and merges with the sky.

There are those who relax under the umbrella, there are children who build sand castles on the seashore and those who dive from the boat. There are mosquitoes that bite us and dragonflies that land on the water's edge. Sunburned skin and the scent of sunscreen mix with the aroma of coffee that someone drinks on a terrace. Some go fishing and some catch insects to stick them with shiny pins. Some float on the surface and eyes that meet other eyes and hands that intertwine with each other. This is life, this is summer.”

After attending the School of Art in Venice, he continued his studies in Milan at the IED, where he obtained a scholarship for the three-year course in visual communication, specializing in illustration. He currently works as a freelance illustrator, collaborating with various companies and newspapers. He has accumulated extensive work experience, starting from the graphic offices of UNITED COLORS OF BENETTON and Love Therapy by Elio Fiorucci. His artistic practice is characterized by the synergy between traditional techniques and new digital technologies, which blend harmoniously to create unique and innovative works.
