Paul SPRIET
Born in 1988 in Lille, Paul Spriet learnt drawing and painting from an early age through observing the works of his grandfather, Patrick Spriet. His training as an architect at the Saint Luc school in Tournai, Belgium, enabled him to confirm his artistic faculties, in particular the techniques of drawing and perspective. At the same time, he continued his apprenticeship in live models at the Brussels Academy of Arts and the Collégiale Gallery in Lille. In his work, an architectural dialogue is established between building and man, geometry and perspective structure it, giving the whole a great coherence and at the same time a great freedom. The translation of this dialogue through the theme of the city is realised through the important use of black and white, fullness and emptiness and constitutes, through the economy of these means, the basis of Paul Spriet's work but also its strength. His works are distinguished by their efficiency of line and mastery of light. In fact, a few brushstrokes create a singular atmosphere. Through a few subtly placed flat black inks and the reserves of white paper, we are transported into a sunny landscape.
