The second exhibition of the Garance & Marion gallery is dedicated to the history, gastronomic and geographical wealth of the Veneto. And for this, nothing better than going to the meeting of the public of the region and continuing our itinerary.

With this new exhibition, our artists, together with 6 new gallery members, have created a once again diverse yet harmonious body of work. Just like the wealth of the Veneto. Veneto: a privileged situation for centuries of gastronomy, but above all for an extraordinary wealth of raw materials which favors quality production.

The settlement of man and the territorial organization in the Veneto really began with the arrival of the Romans in the 2nd century BC. They planned the colonization according to the usual system of centuriatio; this consisted of dividing the fertile lands into numerous square-shaped plots, called centuria because they were made up of 100 parcels of two iùgeri (1 iùgero = about 2400 square metres), entrusted to the settlers' families.

The Romans intensified cultivation, created and strengthened the urban network (Verona, Vicenza and Padua) and strengthened the communication routes. In the early Middle Ages, the decline of the empire and the barbarian invasions slowed down the reorganization of the territory. During these centuries, the massive flight of populations towards the coasts gave rise to new and important episodes of settlement in the lagoon islands. The origin of Venice is also linked to this phenomenon, destined to become the most important city in the region starting from the 9th century, as well as a great political, maritime and commercial power.

Starting from the XIII century, in many provinces - above all in the Treviso area - the breeding of silkworms (imported from China) and the cultivation of mulberries began. At the height of its power, Venice undertook major works in the 15th century to reclaim its lagoon. To prevent the debris carried by the rivers from silting it up and turning it into a gigantic swamp, works were undertaken to divert the watercourses which have continued to this day. Venetian cuisine demonstrates that it combines ancient tradition with innovation, encouraging exchange and, consequently, offering an incomparable blend of flavours. It is no coincidence that, after centuries of history, Venetian cuisine expresses the most diverse influences, mixing recipes and flavors of Jewish and Austrian culture, of Venice and the hinterland, adding other influences, for example from Mantua and Brescia. Furthermore, the gastronomy of the Venetians reflects the geography of the region, with its varied landscapes, capable of differentiating, in the space of a few kilometres, the Alps from the plains, the hills from the rivers, the woods from the sea. The culinary offer is exceptionally varied: tasty cheeses and cured meats, fruit and vegetables, farmed meats and game, freshwater and sea fish.

As for the wine, from Treviso to the Piave, from Pramaggiore to Padua, from the hills to the plains, the quality of the wines is famous throughout the world.

A high quality panorama that has gained significant recognition in recent decades. Each product has its own recognition mark, which certifies that it meets certain parameters. For example, the white asparagus of Cimadolmo, the cherries of Marostica, the beans of Lamon, the red radicchio of Treviso, the variegated radicchio of Castelfranco Veneto or the Vialone nano rice of Verona are all PGI products (Protected Geographical Indication). Asiago, Grana Padano, Montasio, Monte Veronese, Provolone Valpadana, Prosciutto Veneto, extra virgin olive oil from Garda, extra virgin olive oil from Veneto and soprèssa vicentina are DOP (Protected Designation of Origin) products.
