What is your path and what was the spark that led you to art and creation?

It went like this: although drawing was my favorite occupation from the age of three, I studied at the classical high school and then at the law faculty, partly for family reasons. I am a family law lawyer and from this I learned a lot in terms of sensitivity, ability to observe and to carry out reasoning.

Despite this very interesting profession, I always felt a strange uneasiness to which I later gave a name: necessity.

Above all, then, I gave an answer: one thing is the work we do, one thing is what we are. I am made of the substance of my drawings, beautiful or ugly. For me drawing, as well as illustrating when I have the opportunity, is really a primary need, as for another it can be writing, playing or singing. This is what makes me feel like myself. So about three years ago I felt I wanted to do a job that corresponded - not only to an activity I like to do - but to my nature.

What is the medium that inspires you the most and why?

Definitely the drawing. Since I was a child, I have felt that with drawing I can create any reality.

What are your influences and inspirations?

The artists of the movements born at the beginning of the twentieth century in Europe and who then crossed the whole of the last century.

As for painters, I have a veneration for Pablo Picasso. I love Frida Kahlo and Jean-Michel Basquiat for having told the cruelty suffered by the different, as well as Henri de Toulouse Lautrec, the moving Van Gogh, Chagall and Modigliani. Among contemporary artists, I deeply admire the work of David Hockney and Louise Bourgeois. I saw Marlene Dumas' work in Venice a while ago and was very impressed.

What is your creative process?

As far as concept ideas are concerned, they overwhelm me like a flash, they come to me suddenly and then I try to implement them with the techniques I know or by mixing many different techniques. Instead, as far as graphic ideas are concerned, these can only come through work. I draw and paint all the time. The most typical thing of my recent process, which is working with silhouettes of black textures (there is also in the triptych made for you), was born with research. I start doing stuff and enjoy it and then if I'm lucky something comes out.

Have you ever had experiences in an art gallery?

In this period I am having contacts with you and with another gallery.

Did you already know about reproduction (screen printing, risography, pigment printing) and multiples?

Yes, I have been making reproductions of my works for some time, but never by a gallery owner. Your expertise made me want to entrust you with my work with pleasure and let me guide you.

Which artwork would you choose to accompany you throughout your life?

Maybe a crazy painting by Leonora Carrington.

Which exhibition, artist or work of art moved you the most?

Guernica is for me the most important work of that century, and absolutely.

A place that inspires you?

The most interesting place is Peggy Guggenheim's house in Venice, a monument to the history of twentieth-century art in the most beautiful city in the world. I went there for the first time as a little girl with my mum and I don't remember ever having felt such emotion for a place again. It was, as it is, surreal.

I used to draw in the garden alone, while Ambra the dog slept on the lawn. Basically a description of my life today.

What's your mantra?

I don't think I have one, but I think the most important thing that has been said is "Love your neighbor as yourself".

What is your typical day like?

When I'm in Milan, in the morning I take my dog ​​Oriana to the park or take a very long walk with her, then I work in the studio from late in the morning until around 8pm. I don't take breaks. When I'm out and about, I always try to draw in my notebooks. I always have everything I need with me, a set of materials that I've perfected over the years.

What is the role of Garance & Marion in the evolution of your career as an artist?

You brought me back to Venice, one of my favorite places. And you made me think about the relationship between original and reproduction. Also, your love for this work really thrilled me: I feel very close to you.

what are your future projects?

I'm completing a personal project on aquatic cities and I have two books in mind, one on travel and one on the relationship between man and dog.
