ABOUT THE WORK

The cover of Gioia Ghezzo's 2024 calendar, entitled "the Venetians", already sets the tone; the illustration shows a Venetian woman looking at Venice through a Venetian curtain.

The name "Venetian blind" has spread throughout the Western world, thanks to the influence of the Serenissima. The Venetian blind is a type of sunshade integrated into the window frame. Made up of adjustable slats, they allow you to determine the amount of sunlight entering and, when completely closed, block the view of strangers inside the room. It is thought that this type of blind originated in Japan (although very similar objects were already present in Persia, China and Egypt), but it was thanks to the Venetians, who already in the fourteenth century traded with the Land of the Rising Sun and with the Eastern world, that the system was perfected and spread throughout the Western world.
